As there is only one set of store addressing circuits in most computers, there may be clashes between the central processor and the peripheral unit transferring data. Any such clash must be resolved by one or other taking priority and it is usually the central processor which takes second place in these circumstances. OVERLAPPING PROCESSES The reason that many computers provide a faciHty for a program to be stopped running pending the completion of a peripheral transfer, is that there is a vast difference between the speed of peripherals and that of the central processor.
Doctors disUke completing forms and a requirement which may be thought to be quite reasonable by a systems designer may be regarded as being an intolerable imposi tion by a busy clinician. (3) The data preparation processes. If the volumes of data pre paration are at all large, these should include any procedures to simplify the task and thus increase its accuracy. (4) The clerical procedures, including a specification of the responsibihty for collecting forms, batching them up, making sure that batches are not lost, that computer runs are submitted correctly and at the right rime and that the output is distributed promptly to the people who should receive it.
